HydroCAD® Stormwater Modeling - Since 1986

HydroCAD Flex Edition

Starting with HydroCAD 10.2, the license agreement has been expanded to allow you to run HydroCAD on any computer operated by your company or organization at any location.  With this expanded enterprise licensing, each "user" that you purchase will allow the operation of HydroCAD on one computer at a time.  Your HydroCAD licenses are automatically managed by our cloud-based server, so no special setup is required.  Just install HydroCAD on each computer and go!

Understanding Your License Code

Most customers will receive a single license code which can be used on all their HydroCAD installations.  Simply type the license code when requested by HydroCAD.  If you are trying to automate the installation on multiple computers, you may prefer to preset the license code in the registry.  Details here.

Each license code allows HydroCAD to operate with a specific node capacity.  Customers who decide to maintain more than one node capacity will be issued a separate license code for each node capacity.  In this situation, you will need to assign a specific license code to each user, depending on their typical node requirements.  Since there is no provision to enter multiple license codes, we strongly encourage customers to maintain all licenses at the same node capacity, thus allowing a single license code to be used throughout your organization.  This is especially important for system administrators, allowing them to manage usage for the entire organization under a single license code.

Frequently Asked Questions?

How does the software compare to the previous program?  HydroCAD 10.2 requires a continuous internet connection to communicate with the license server.  However, the software is still installed and run on your local PC, so operating speed is not affected in any way.

Is this a web application?  No.  Everything resides and runs on your PC, not over the internet.  The program is virtually identical to the traditional HydroCAD software.  The only difference is the use of a cloud-based licensing system to enable the operation of the software.

Does it require a high-speed (broadband) connection?  No. Very little information is exchanged with the license server, so a low-speed connection will work just as well as broadband.

Does it work with a proxy server?  HydroCAD requires a direct internet connection in order to communicate with the license server.  Proxy servers are not currently supported.

Does it work over a VPN?  Yes!  In fact, a VPN can be useful if your ISP is running a firewall that blocks communication with the HydroCAD license server.

Are there any special computer requirements?  No.  HydroCAD continues to run on all supported versions of Windows

What about virtual environments?  HydroCAD will run on most virtual environments, as long as user settings (stored in HKCU) are retained between sessions.

Is this a cloud-based application?  No.  HydroCAD is still a native Windows application.  All user data is stored on your PC, exactly as before, and is never transmitted over the internet or stored remotely.  You remain in full control and possession of your data.

What information is transmitted to the license server?  HydroCAD sends only essential license information, as required to verify your license and maintain basic usage records.  This includes your Windows user name and computer name, your public IP address, and the maximum number of nodes used during each session.  No other user data or files are transferred to the license server at any time.

Can I exchange data with other HydroCAD editions?  Absolutely.  Project files can be freely exchanged between different editions.  There is no difference in the file format or results.  Exchanged files are not subject to any additional version or node restrictions.
