HydroCAD® Stormwater Modeling - Since 1986

Serial Number Password

You have the option to assign a password to prevent others from viewing or changing your HydroCAD serial number(s). After a password is assigned, it must be entered each time you access the Settings|Serial Number screen.

We strongly advise that a password be assigned on any network installation, or on any computer that may be used by several people. If you do not assign a password, someone else will have the opportunity to do so!

Note: This password is used only to protect your HydroCAD serial number(s), and is fully independent of any download password you may have been assigned. If you do not recall setting the password, it may have been set by your system administrator or by someone else with access to your HydroCAD installation.

If you lose your password

There is no way to recover a lost password or gain access to the Settings|Serial number screen without it. If you lose your password, or the password isn't recognized, the only remedy is to delete the HydroCAD.HCL file from your computer or network drive. This will remove the password and reset all HydroCAD serial numbers. The next time you run HydroCAD you will be prompted to re-enter your serial number(s).

The location of the HydroCAD.hcl can vary depending on the version of HydroCAD and Windows you're using.

Windows 10:    C:\Program Data\HydroCAD\HydroCAD.HCL

Windows XP:    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HydroCAD\HydroCAD.HCL

The file may also be stored in a custom location you previously selected, such as a network drive used for license pooling.  The easiest way to find the file is to use the Windows Search command.  Be sure the search includes "hidden files and folders".  If more than one HydroCAD.HCL file is found, delete them all.  The next time you start HydroCAD, the serial number screen will open, and you must re-enter your complete serial number.

Note: Reinstalling or uninstalling HydroCAD will not reset the password.  The only way to reset the password is by manually deleting the HydroCAD.HCL file(s).
