Using the Chamber Wizard

The HydroCAD chamber wizard is a revolutionary tool for doing underground storage layout and modeling.  In just a few steps you can layout a complete drainage field and create the storage elements used by HydroCAD to perform the actual hydrograph routing calculations.

Step 1:  To ensure you get all the latest chamber definitions, we recommend that you use the latest HydroCAD-10.2 release.  If you have an earlier version you can get update details here.  Although the chamber wizard is available starting with HydroCAD-9, earlier versions will not have all the latest chamber definitions.

Step 2: Start HydroCAD and create a new project, or open an existing project that will include the chambers.

Step 3: Create a pond that will contain the chambers, or use an existing pond.

Step 4: Right-click the pond and select Edit.

Step 5: Make sure the "Detention pond" button is selected and click the "Storage" tab.

Step 6: Double-click a blank storage line and select "Chamber Wizard".

Step 7: When the wizard opens, select a chamber from the library of over 250 common chambers.

Step 8: Set the chamber spacing, bedding and cover.  Or just check a box to automatically use the manufacturer's recommended parameters.

Step 9: Adjust the number of chambers until you achieve the desired layout and overall storage.

As you adjust any of the parameters, the storage analysis and layout sketch are instantly updated:

The wizard can even be used to calculate the total system cost.  Just enter your costs for the chamber, excavation, and stone, and everything instantly appears in the report.  You can also include additional materials or comments, so that the final report contains all the relevant information.

Step 10:  Click OK to save the wizard, then click OK again to save the entire pond definition.  HydroCAD automatically creates the appropriate storage definitions for the stone and embedded chambers.

Step 11:  Double-click the pond to open a report window.  Review the Summary, Wizards, and Storage tabs to see the complete storage data.

Step 12: Optional: To perform a complete hydrograph routing, just add your outlet devices and inflow hydrograph!
