HydroCAD® Stormwater Modeling - Since 1986

HydroCAD Supports
GoodFlow StormArc

HydroCAD provides direct support for the GoodFlow StormArc system of precast concrete stormwater storage.  This allows StormArc systems to be easily used within any HydroCAD model for stormwater storage, detention, or infiltration.

GoodFlow StormArc can be modeled with HydroCAD 10.2-4a or later.  If you have an earlier version of HydroCAD, you must obtain a program update in order to model GoodFlow StormArc systems.

How chambers are modeled

In a HydroCAD model, stormwater chambers typically appear as part of the storage definition for a "pond".  In the simplest case, HydroCAD calculates the available storage for use with other calculations.  But more often, it is used to generate a complete inflow or runoff hydrograph and route it through the pond.  The resulting analysis indicates the water levels attained throughout the rainfall event, as well as any discharge that may occur through outlet devices or infiltration into the surrounding ground.

Flexible storage options

Each pond may include an unlimited number of storage definitions as required to describe its overall storage characteristics.  This makes it easy to model complex storage arrangements, such as a combination of multiple chambers, pipe storage, catch basins, or other contributing volumes, including above-ground areas (parking lots) that may provide overflow storage for large events.  HydroCAD can also calculate the storage contribution from a stone bed placed under the chambers.

Modeling GoodFlow StormArc chambers

Setting up a pond to use StormArc storage is a simple process:  Just select "GoodFlow StormArc" from the drop-down chamber list, select the desired system height (3-12 feet), and specify the total number of chambers.  Or you can use the HydroCAD chamber wizard to automatically layout the system, including the typical stone bed.  In either case, you can use the optional row length adjustment to model systems that are not a multiple of the normal 8-foot chamber length.

Detailed chamber information

When modeling the StormArc system in HydroCAD, it is important to note that each HydroCAD chamber consists of a single GoodFlow Arc plus half of the GoodFlow chamber on either side.  This allows HydroCAD to layout the overall system by assembling these chamber units side-by side at any desired length.  A border is automatically added to each side of the system to restore the full-width GoodFlow Chamber on each side.  The resulting HydroCAD model will provide the same same overall storage quoted by GoodFlow.
